Halalens operates the Halalens food-scanner app, listed on the App Store as “Halal Check & Scan”. Privacy enquiries, access, correction, complaints and deletion requests can be sent to support@auralis24.com, or submitted using the app’s Report product data form and selecting Other.
Food preferences, saved products and scan history are stored locally. No consumer account is required. Barcodes are transmitted over HTTPS to Open Food Facts and, when configured, Halalens verification services. Barcode camera frames remain on the device.
In Food camera mode, one still photo is sent securely to the Halalens Edge Function and OpenAI only after the user taps Analyse food. Halalens does not store the photo in its product database. OpenAI and infrastructure providers receive normal connection information and process the image to return the requested analysis.
When the user opens Halal restaurants and grants foreground location permission, approximate coordinates pass through the Halalens Edge Function to the OpenStreetMap Overpass service to retrieve nearby public listings. Halalens does not store location history or request background location.
Voluntary product reports may contain a barcode, product name, description, evidence link and contact email. A random installation token is salted and hashed for spam prevention; the raw token is not stored.
Halalens does not sell subscriptions or any other in-app purchase. The app collects no payment details, processes no purchases, and sends no purchase or entitlement data to us or to any third party. If purchases are introduced in a future version, this policy will be updated before that version is released.
Diagnostics are off by default and require an in-app opt-in. If enabled, Halalens may receive app version, platform, error type and a shortened sanitised message. This excludes barcodes, food preferences, history, contact details, camera images, food photos and advertising identifiers. Consent can be withdrawn in the app.
Data is used to provide lookups, find nearby restaurant listings, analyse a food photo when requested, investigate corrections, maintain security and improve reliability. Product lookups are shared with Open Food Facts, restaurant location queries with OpenStreetMap Overpass, and requested food-photo analyses with OpenAI through the Halalens backend. Backend information may be processed by Supabase or hosting providers. Halalens does not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
Network data uses HTTPS. Verification evidence is access-controlled and audited. Product reports are retained while investigated and for up to 24 months afterward. Diagnostics are deleted after 90 days. Food photos are not stored by Halalens after analysis. Some records may be retained where reasonably required for security, fraud prevention or law.
Local data can be removed by clearing app storage or uninstalling. Submit other requests by email or through the in-app reporting mechanism. If a privacy complaint is unresolved, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
For help using the app, see the Halalens support page.
Halalens will update this policy when its data practices materially change.
